IUSTINIANI IMP. INSTITUTIONUM LIBRI IIII FRANCISCII ACCURSII GLOSSIS ILLUSTRATI. QUAE ADIECIMUS SEQUENTI PAGINA DECLARABUNTUR. LUGDUNI, Apud Bartolomeum Vincentium, MD.LXXVII, (1577)

    Description: [in 8vo] – pp. (32), 638, (24), (b)

CODEX JUSTINIANUM. COMMENTARY. Accursius Franciscus also known as Accorso da Bagnolo (Impruneta, 1184 – Bologna, 1263) was an Italian law scholar and glossist (commentator) and a representative of the School of Bologna.

The present work is a commentary to the four books of the Institutions Jof the codex promulgated by Justianianus. The Codex was a collections of laws and legal interpretations developed under the sponsorship of the Byzantine emperor Justinian I from AD 529 to 565. Our copy is a XCI Century annotated version of the Justinian Institutions with the much respected commentary of the medieval scholar Franciscus Accursius (1184-1263).

The text is framed by the commentary and rubricated in red and black ink. Nice attractive title page entirely carved in woodcut, with the allegories of justice and truth bearing a sord and the scale. Text on 2 columns, a few antique hand written annotations and a few ink stains, including one on the upper side of the title page, not disturbing though. Good interiors with usual light browning due to age, in the overall a nice copy well preserved. Late binding with spine in stiff vellum and handwritten titles, a little faded, and brown “varese” marbled paper boards with corners in vellum.

Nice Copy in Good Antiquarian Conditions
